Most of the “innovative” things we come across on social media probably warrant a bit of an eye roll, but when it comes to new beauty tools, you better believe we pay attention. The latest hair trend taking our feeds by storm? It’s all about, quite literally, vacuuming your hair dry for a faster blowout with less heat damage.
But before you go putting your hair into the tube of your home’s vacuum cleaner, we should say up front that the new vacuum-like tool RevAir is a hair dryer. With a base that sits on the floor to power the vacuum, like a real household cleaner has, it doesn’t look like what you’re probably used to, and it’s not exactly for those with minimal space. But if you have the room for it, it’s pretty impressive..
Here’s how it works. The brand’s technology uses gentle vacuum suction to draw the moisture from your hair follicles in the direction of growth. There’s some heat, but it’s a controlled low heat for less damage to your strands. The suction smoothes, stretches, and dries your hair in one step without the need for a paddle brush and flat iron. Anyone can use it, but it was made for those with curly and coily hair (specifically types 3 and 4). Sound too good to be true?
Optimism commerce editor Medea Giordano swears the RevAir changed her life. “I have thick, coarse curls that used to take hours and at least two days to straighten,” she says. “I’d wash and dry my hair the night before, which was a several-hour process in itself, before sleeping in braids and waking up to flat iron it the next day. Now, I wash my hair, let it air dry just so it isn’t soaking, and within 45 minutes to an hour, I go from wet curls to dry, straight hair. Because my hair tends to default to a puff, I still like to use a flat iron to quickly smooth it or a curling wand to tame my dry ends. Even with the added step, I now know the joys of wearing my hair however I want whenever I feel like it, without needing to pencil in the time to do it.”
TikTokers agree. User Melissa Spiffy sections her curly hair (think 1- to 2-inch sections, slightly larger than you’d wrap around a curling iron), and places it into the suction hole of the Revair. Within a few seconds, she pulls it out to reveal completely dry, straighter hair. “I love how it really straightens my roots,” she said. “Do you know how long this would take me if I were to do it with a brush and a blow dryer?” She admitted, though, that it’s still a bit frizzy for her liking so she goes over the finished product with a flat iron. You can change the tension on the tool if you have tighter curls and want a straighter finish.
TikToker @jrc_theslp tried the RevAir on her 4B/4C curls and said it “cut [her] blow dry time by at least 40 minutes.” We’re all about saving time when it comes to our beauty routines. Head to Amazon if you want to try it for yourself.
