Whether you’re already a fan of suits or have to start wearing them for a new job, there are so many ways to make this classic outfit look just a little more fresh and unique. Suits are back in a big way, but it can feel a little daunting to incorporate them into your wardrobe. Playing with how you style your suits is a fun way to feel fashionable at work, and even take your new suited look outside the office.
Celebrities including Zendaya, Oprah, Kris Jenner, and even Hailey Bieber have been known to rock a suit on a red carpet or at an event. To ensure their suit is star-worthy, they make a few simple tweaks that take it from basic to head-turning. Here are a few ways to style your own suit that won’t cost a fortune.
1. Go Monochromatic With a Pop of Color
TikTok creator @angelabaltimore wore an all-white suit with a bright green button-down undershirt, and the result is fun, playful, and still classy enough for work functions. If you want to start small, try matching your purse and shoes, either in a contrasting tone to your suit or in the same color family. Bonus points for a vibrant shade such as red or green.
2. Go for a Cropped, Fitted Pant
Choosing a cropped pant for your suit not only allows you to show off your shoes, but also helps a simple suit look just a little sharper without much effort. And you can rewear your pants during your off-hours just like TikTok creator @lifewithjazzzz did. Pair cropped suit pants with a tank top for date night or drinks with your friends.
3. Swap Heels for Sneakers
Just because you’re wearing a suit doesn’t automatically mean you need heels to soften the look, despite what we were told in the ’90s. Instead, try some chunky “dad sneakers” with your suited ’fits for a laid-back look. If your suit is bright and colorful, try an all-white pair, or have fun with adding even more color, like TikToker @kathydorleans did when she added pink, blue, and yellow sneakers to a bright green suit.
4. Cinch Your Blazer
TikToker @julieelizavogel makes this cinched-waist suit look like a million bucks, or at least like she just made a million-dollar decision in the office. Adding a blazer that has a tie-waist to your suit arsenal gives it edge without you having to do much work. You can even wear it open as a light jacket or overcoat when you’re not wearing the full suit.
5. Mix Prints
You can mix prints in a number of different ways when it comes to a suit. You can wear solid colors in the suit and have a mixed print in the undershirt, or wear three different prints in the pants, the suit jacket, and the undershirt, as creator @GemmaWhattoWear did in her outfit styling.
It’s also a sustainable styling option. You can easily switch up one part of your suit to change the overall vibe of the outfit itself. Have fun mixing and matching prints and playing with different suit styles and you can rewear the same suit in a number of different ways.
